If you've ever been to McDonald's, you'll surely recognize the potatoes we propose in today's recipe. Deluxe Potatoes are one of our favorite tapas recipes! Cut into wedges, with skin, and seasoned with spices, these potatoes will delight the whole family. You can serve them as they are or accompanied by barbecue sauce or alioli.

Deluxe potatoes often accompany hamburgers, hot dogs, and other fast food dishes. This type of food is often associated with an unhealthy lifestyle, but this doesn't have to be the case, we can make very healthy fast food at home. To achieve this, we must choose quality products and apply suitable cooking methods to each ingredient. If you want to know more, we invite you to read our post; Fast food: homemade and healthy fast food.

For this recipe, we recommend you choose potatoes that are neither very new nor very old. It's important to cook them with their skin on, as this way we get a final product with a juicy interior. If you can get small pieces, a little larger than an egg, you will find it less work to cut them into wedges.

Deluxe potatoes are a perfect way to consume potatoes in a different way. This is a recipe with less fat than normal fries, as we don't fry them in oil throughout the whole process, but first boil them and then briefly fry them to make them crispy on the outside.

Ingredients for Deluxe Potatoes for 2 people

  • Medium potatoes - 2 units
  • Flour - 3 tablespoons
  • Sweet paprika - half a tablespoon
  • Spicy paprika - half a tablespoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Thyme - 1 tablespoon
  • Pepper - half a tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Olive oil - for frying

How to make the recipe Deluxe Potatoes

  1. The first step will be to wash the potatoes well and boil them with their skin on in plenty of salted water for 5 minutes. You don't want them to be very cooked so that they don't fall apart when we cut them into wedges.
  2. The next step will be to cut the potatoes. You are NOT going to peel them for this preparation. Cut them in half, and each half into wedges. Cut to a finger's thickness, bringing the knife to the center of the potato, and so on.
  3. In a bowl, mix all the flour and spices: the paprika, thyme, garlic powder, pepper, and salt. Add the cut potatoes to the bowl, and mix everything well with the help of a spoon, being careful not to break them.
  4. Pour a good stream of oil into a frying pan, enough to cover the potatoes when you add them, and turn the heat up to maximum to fry. Fry for 5 minutes, or until you see that a crunchy crust has formed on the outside.
  5. Remove the potatoes from the oil with a spatula, and drain them by placing them on a plate with a piece of absorbent paper on top.
  6. Serve with a good piece of meat or a burger, a little mayonnaise, and it's time to EAT!

Notes and Tips

Some people prefer to fry the potatoes without skin. If that's your case, I recommend you peel them after boiling them (with skin) so that their inside is juicier.
